A few years ago, thanks to James Gunn, “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl)” received a well deserved bump in popularity. I mean, who didn’t like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. #2? Do you remember those days? Pre-Covid? Pre-Jan 6? That’s what I like to call our “classic” era.
Anyway.
“Brandy” is one of those songs that just works at every level. It sounds happy but it feels sad. It talks of lost love. It talks of wandering the streets at night. It’s a romantic sort of thing that we all want to say is simple but is actually quite, quite complicated.
It’s a great song.
