“Red Right Hand” from the album Let Love In, released in 1994
I know it is pretty basic, but this song is on the playlist I listen to during Halloween. It’s one of those scary songs inspired by religion. There are a lot of those, but, frankly, Nick Cave hits it out of the park with this dark little ditty.
Divine vengeance is both a terrifying and somewhat comforting thing. On the one hand, it is terrible to think that there is a god out there capable of it. On the other hand, it is nice to think there is a god out there who cares.
“Red Right Hand” captures those conflicting feelings really, really well.
