I know, looking back through the lens of progress, we can all agree that this song is kind of creepy. Rick Springfield kind of comes off as a terrible friend and in need of some serious psychiatric help.

But maybe it is because of that raw honesty that the song has had such staying power for 40+ years.

But what do I know? I’m neither a music theorist or a psychiatrist.
