Project 365 Day #163

“Debra” from the album Midnight Vultures, released in 1999

I know you might be thinking, “Wait. Midnight Vultures is Beck’s worst album.” It’s an unapologetically poppy upbeat mess that doesn’t really feel like it knows what it is. And maybe that’s all true. But I still like it. Taste, after all, is subjective. And on that album — an album that I love BTW — “Debra” is the best.

A soul influenced song that is kind of trippy, kind of weird, and kind of fun, “Debra” gives us Beck at his most obnoxiously high octaves. Also, there is a David Bowie sample in it.

So, you know, I’m here for that.

See what else I’ve placed on Project 365 here.
